Google Phone Introduces Customizable Calling Cards for Contacts
Google is rolling out a new personalization feature for its Phone
Google is rolling out a new personalization feature for its Phone and Contacts apps – Google Phone Calling Cards – giving Android users a fresh way to customize their incoming call screens. This update brings Android’s call screen aesthetics closer to Apple’s Contact Posters introduced in iOS 17, but with its own twist.
Instead of the standard circular profile photo, Google Phone Calling Cards allow you to set a full-screen background image for a contact. When you receive a call, the selected photo fills the entire display, making incoming calls more vibrant and personalized.
This feature seems to extend existing profile picture functionality rather than replacing it entirely. Unlike Google Messages, which lets you set an image everyone can see, Calling Cards appear to be visible only on your device – at least for now. However, there’s a possibility Google could expand this feature to match profile photo sharing across its messaging services.

How Google Phone Calling Cards Work
When the feature becomes available, opening a contact’s details will prompt:
“Try adding a calling card: Customize how [contact name] appears during calls.”
The customization process is straightforward:
- Choose a photo from your Camera, Gallery, or Google Photos.
- Adjust its position to fit the screen.
- Select a font style for the contact’s name.
- Pick from a wide range of colors, including Autumn Orange, Raspberry Pink, Royal Blue, Seafoam Green, Vivid Cyan, and even a “Smart Color” option that adapts to the background.
This personalization pairs well with Google’s upcoming Horizontal Swipe or Single Tap gesture for answering calls, making the calling experience more intuitive and engaging.
Rollout Details
Currently, Google Phone Calling Cards are rolling out to a limited number of beta testers in Phone by Google 188 beta. Meanwhile, Google Contacts 4.61 is already widely available with the new Material 3 Expressive design.
In addition, Google is testing another enhancement: the “Call Message” feature has been renamed to “Take a Message” in the latest beta, further improving how users manage calls they can’t answer immediately.
Why This Update Matters
This move shows Google’s continued effort to make the calling experience more visually appealing and customizable, aligning with user demand for personalization. With Android competing closely with iOS in design and user engagement, Google Phone Calling Cards could become a widely used feature once it rolls out globally.
